Katamari Meter Meyhem Mode Added!


A new update for katamari with online multiplayer has come out. The main content, a new game mode called Meter Mayhem!

Meter mayhem is a mode meant to mimic and possibly improve upon the basic levels from old katamari games where you and your opponents tried to get the most of a specific item. Some levels are based on one item while others have a selection of items you can pick up. The items required will appear in the bottom right of the screen. After each level you are taken to the meter mayhem lobby and you can see who has the most wins from your current session.

During a level you will see how many goal items you have, your current placement and how much more you need to get 1st. If you are 1st, you see how many points you are ahead of 2nd. Only 1st place will get a point when you return to the lobby. If there is a tie for 1st place, everyone who tied is considered a winner, even if the tie is for 0 points.

Each level lasts 1-2 minutes and there are 15 levels in total. Currently you are given a random one each time you start a level. Within the main lobby, you see the previous winner as well as the current standings. Only the host can start the game despite the start button appearing for everyone, this is because when the host leaves a new host will be chosen and they can start the game.

Balancing:
[DASH] The dash will no longer make gravity have a stronger effect on you. The dash now functions as an attack, allowing you to knock items off of others and push them away from you. You can even dash into players a bit larger than you to damage them.

QOL: You can now rebind controls in the main menu. The only exception is that “Esc” will always pause the game, You can still rebind “P” as a secondary pause button.

How To Play now has less text.

You can no longer join rooms created on different versions of the game. You will simply be taken to a different room.

Picking up items is client side not server side, this should improve gameplay for anyone who is not the host.

Future content–: A few things have been coded but not expanded upon yet, Meter Mayhem had to be postponed for a while, so I was working on future content until it was ready.
More item types are coming, I am still going to be modeling everything. If this changes, such as me having a friend model a few things, I will give credit to whomever modeled some of the items.


[Powerups] Powerups have been coded and are fully working, they come in 4 types. They are active until you lose them, however this may change when they are implemented.

  • Armor: This item will be lost before non-armor when you take damage.
  • Speed: You go faster.
  • Sticky: You can pick up items that are slightly larger.
  • Gains: You gain slightly more volume from picked up items.
  • Magnet: Works alone but not in multiplayer, auto-picks up items in a radius for a short while.

As a counter to this, a few more threats are being worked on as well

[Traps] Both stable and mobile, when touching these you lose considerable items and some stability. If you are big enough you can ignore small traps and maybe pick them up. [Weapon Types] A few weapons are in the works, these give temporary debuffs to your opponents when you hit them.

  • Slow: This has been coded, your opponent is slowed for a while.
  • Slippery: Not coded yet, your opponent will not be able to pick up much for a while.
  • Slimming: Not coded yet, your opponent will gain less volume for a while.

Game modes: Meter Mayhem part 2: More levels will come with different objectives, such as “Get to X size first”, “Be the biggest when time runs out” and “Get X objective items first”. I will also work on getting a level select ready for Meter Mayhem. Lastly, more co-op content is coming, these levels will be similar to old fashion make a star levels. The mechanic of getting to a new size tier and items despawning will come into place to allow you to start at just centimeters and grow to kilometers.
